Frequently Asked Questions
What does a women’s psychiatrist do?
A women’s psychiatrist specializes in the intersection of hormones, brain chemistry, and life transitions, including perimenopause, PMDD, pregnancy, postpartum, and midlife mood changes.
Do hormonal shifts really affect mental health?
Yes. Estrogen, progesterone, thyroid function, cortisol, and metabolic changes can impact mood, anxiety, sleep, and cognition. I offer psychiatric care informed by hormonal physiology.
What is integrative psychiatry?
Integrative psychiatry looks at mental health through a whole-body lens, combining traditional psychiatric care with an understanding of hormones, sleep, metabolism, nutrition, and stress physiology. Treatment considers how these systems interact and may include medication, hormonal support, lifestyle strategies, and coordination with other wellness providers to help women feel better on every level.
Can a psychiatrist help with perimenopause?
Absolutely. Perimenopause can cause significant anxiety, depression, irritability, insomnia, and emotional sensitivity. Treatment often includes low-dose estrogen therapy, targeted medications, nutritional strategies, and nervous system regulation. Learn more here
How is PMDD treated?
PMDD can improve with SSRIs, hormones, supplements/neutraceuticals, lifestyle/metabolic support. Treatment is personalized to you: your cycles, your history, medications you've already tried. Complex decision making can help us to find the right fit medications for you - we have more options, new options, outside of the box thinking. Learn more here
Do you work with ADHD in women?
Yes — including late-diagnosed ADHD, hormone or perimenopause-related worsening, executive dysfunction, and emotional dysregulation in high-achievers. ADHD presents differently in high functioning women. Utilizing our own unique qualitative assessments, if ADHD is there, we will find it.
